Jenny Thom LPC, CST
(she/her)
I offer individual and relationship therapy for people who want support around a variety of concerns. My style is sex positive and strength-based. I honor and welcome all identities. I am deeply aware of cultural issues and sensitive to people who may feel marginalized by the dominant culture. As someone who identifies as part of the dominant culture, I recognize my unearned privileges in my communities and society at large based on the body I inhabit. I bring my personal and professional life experiences, my own complex identities, and a lot of self compassion to my work with all clients. Through continuous self educating and cultural humility, I continue to confront how I prevent equity in my personal and professional relationships. My hope is to never stop growing in my awareness.

A term I picked up early on that I love is phenomenological perspective, the philosophy of experience, to treat others as they want to be treated and listen for values, beliefs and attitudes. I think about the power of thoughtful conversation using Socratic questioning, how it enables us to examine our reflections logically, using our wise mind to determine the validity of those reflections. Since mid 2024, I have been training in Relational Life Therapy and practice through the lens of RLT with Terry Real. This modality prepares me for advanced work with relationships. In the work we do together, I want to understand your family of origin and how your family system and family role influenced and helped you move through your life. From there, we work together applying various strategies to get you the change you want.

My approach to therapy is primarily informed by feminist and queer views. I am also influenced by other contemporary and historical theorists such as Richard Schwartz, Carl Rogers as well as contemporary teachers and leaders Ellyn Bader and Esther Perel. I create a non judgmental, warm, attuned environment where you can touch into your vulnerability to relational or situational obstacles, gain self awareness and open yourself to new opportunities for growth and relationship enhancement.
